Consultant Led Reassurance Pregnancy Scan (up to 16 weeks)
Royal Berkshire Hospital offers a Consultant Led Reassurance Pregnancy Scan service within the Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit for women in early pregnancy (up to 16 weeks). All scans are performed and reported by experienced Consultant Gynaecologists, providing specialist early pregnancy expertise in a calm, supportive setting.
Appointments are designed to offer both thorough ultrasound assessment and time for discussion, so that you can ask questions and leave with a clear understanding of the findings.
What the Reassurance Scan Includes
Depending on gestation (up to 16 weeks), the scan may:
- Confirm fetal heartbeat and viability
- Assess pregnancy location (inside the uterus)
- Check for common early pregnancy complications such as miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, where relevant
- Provide reassurance between routine NHS scans in standard antenatal pathways
Your Consultant Gynaecologist will explain the scan findings during the appointment and answer any questions you may have.

Practical Details
- Fee: £350 paid prior to appointment
- Gestation: Up to 16 weeks of pregnancy. Please be aware that scans done before 6 weeks gestation may be inconclusive
