| Background |
Adam Jones has a special interest in laparoscopic and robotic surgery for benign and malignant urology conditions performing over 700 nephrectomies (kidney removal), as well as adding to the existing service for urological cancer. Adam has pioneered robotic surgery in Reading, both clinically, performing over 500 radical prostatectomies and by leading the ‘Robbie the Robot Appeal’. This appeal brought the first Da Vinci robot to Reading in 2008. Adam also works on the European Robotic Urology Symposium helping to train robotic surgeons of the future. In conjunction with Paul Rogers (oncologist) and Peter Malone, Adam has helped to build up the prostate brachytherapy service in Reading to be one of the busiest ‘real time’ centres in Europe with over 1000 patients treated. He has also taught as a faculty member for ERUS (European Robotic Urology Symposium) training courses and was appointed to the Royal College of Surgeons of England Court of Examiners in 2013-present. Adam Jones joined Reading Urology in 2003 after being appointed to the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in 2002. Adam was nominated as Health Worker of the Year in the Pride of Reading awards for his work in raising funds to keep the Da Vinci robot at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. |
